Reflections on the Year: A Gratitude Journal for 2023

Now that we’re well into November and quickly approaching the end of the year, I wanted to take some time before things get too crazy to look back at all the things I have to be thankful for this year.

Starting off 2023, the spring semester might’ve had some of my all-time favorite classes I’ve taken at Gonzaga. There were two major standouts for me, those being French Film and Database Management. French Film was the final French class I needed to take to finish my French minor, and it was as fun as it sounds. Despite it largely not focusing on teaching grammar or vocab, I felt this might be one of the French classes in which I still learned the most and grew the furthest in mastering the language. Database Management on the other was focused on SQL and was the first college class I’ve taken that was entirely dedicated to a single coding language. I especially enjoyed this class because SQL has a fairly small scope, meaning I was able to leave the class confident in my skills and with a strong understanding of databases.

This summer wasn’t exactly the busiest summer I’ve had, which is great because that meant I was able to focus on my internship at Gen Digital. I’ll spare you the details since I’ve already talked about everything I learned from the position elsewhere on this blog, but I can’t overstate how great of an experience I had.

The end of the summer also saw my sister pass her bar exam and move to Texas. Obviously, it’s a bit sad whenever someone you care about moves away, but it’s hard not to feel happy for her and I’m so thankful that she was able to find such a good opportunity.
